Hi. Welcome to Reza's blog.

Hiking, Bikes, and dry April

There were not yet many hikers on the peak when we reached it. The peak faced a flat land on the northern side. We could see far distances, villages, farms, roads, small lakes, and a few wind turbines. Especially with the clear sky today, no clouds, deep blue sky and sunshine. It was still not warm enough, though. We felt cold when the wind blew. On the other side, the southern side, there were mountains. There was still some snow left from winter.

This April was not like last years. Here, they have a famous proverb which says, "April does what it wants." This year, that was not the case; quite the opposite, the weather was stable, with a mostly clear sky and beautiful spring sun, but a bit cold. It was drier than usual, which caused a higher risk of forest fires.

We found a free bench, a bit more protected from the wind, to sit down and eat our lunch. Our food for today was a cheese sandwich with some sliced bell peppers and cucumber. Not fancy, but delicious.

From up here, we could observe what was happening in the land below us. A man told another person in his group, who arrived after us, that he could see the Bavarian Forest with his binoculars. I am not sure if he was mistaken or not. The Bavarian Forest is at least 200 kilometers away from here.

I watched from above as a group of road cyclists passed through a village. The cycling season has already started. Groups of road cyclists are becoming more common on the roads. Last October, I bought a gravel bike. They have been trendy since the Corona pandemic. Mine is not an expensive bike, it is one of the beginner models available on the market. It is, however, enough for me, for my commuting to work and occasional small tours.

My bike is less than quarter price of the more professional ones which usually more serious hobby cyclists have. I sometimes compare mine with the more expensive ones. They look more fun to cycle, and more cool. "Comparison is the thief of joy", I remind myself. My bike is enough for me. It will last a few years. I do not need a more expensive one.

Our lunch is finished now. The peak is getting more crowded and we are feeling colder. It's time to move again.
