Hi. Welcome to Reza's blog.

Making progress at swimming

I learned to swim at a young age. In one summer holidays, my parents sent me to a swimming course. There, I was not the best swimmer. However, somehow managed to learn just enough to not sink in water.

Afterwards, I didn't continue swimming regularly. Just every now and then, in vacations or in swimming pools when I wanted to do something different.

During all these years, I was convinced that I am not a good swimmer. I can swim but never considered it as a hobby. As something I do with enthusiasm.

Since a few weeks, I take a swimming course to improve my technique. I don't know what happened that I decided to register for this course.

Each Saturday, I go there, receive my training plan, and try to work my way through the trainings: One lane crawling only the feet. Next lane only the right arm. Next the left arm. Now, try to do two lanes with both arms, use a pool bouy and swimming board if you need. Now swim two more lanes for relaxing. And a lot of other trainings for two complete hours.

At the end of each training session, our trainer records us swimming and shows our mistakes. It is difficult to correct the wrong moves I have been doing for years. But I try the stay focused during swimming and learn the correct technique. My progress is slow. Maybe a few years ago, I would get disappointed at such slow progress. But now, I try to learn to not care.

If I do not manage to get good enough at the end of this course, who cares. I do one more. My time horizon is longer now, few years. It is enough for me as long as I put the necessary work and make some slow improvements.
