Now I own a copy of "Divan of Hafez"
It has been a few weeks since I bought my own copy of the "Divan of Hafez", but I didn't want to let it go unmentioned.
It may be just a book that can easily be bought or ordered online, but the act of owning a copy of it holds special meaning for me.
In my childhood back home, each family that owned a copy of the Divan of Hafez was, a cultured and literary family to me. I imagined the whole family sitting together at Yalda night, and grandpa reading Hafez poems for everyone.
We also had a copy at home, but nobody read it. I tried to read it a few times, but I couldn't understand the meaning of the words and verses. Maybe this is the reason I couldn't get the same satisfaction when I saw our Divan at home as when I saw it at other homes.
When I bought the book, all these memories and childhood imaginations came back. I thought, now I am an adult and can be that cultured and literary person that I always imagined others being as a child.
This is not a normal book to read once and put back on your bookshelf. It should be read again and again over the years, each time getting a different interpretation of the poems based on what stage of life you are in.
I thought maybe I could read it someday to my children, and even in the far future to my grandchildren.
